Super Friends debuted on ABC Saturday mornings on September 8, 1973. The cartoon was an adaptation of DC Comics' Justice League  comic which featured Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and other popular DC heroes together as a crime fighting team. The cartoon featured character designs by artist Alex Toth who also designed many of Hanna-Barbera's original superhero characters such as Birdman and Space Ghost. In the first version of the show the heroes were overshadowed by their sidekicks: Wendy, Marvin, and Wonder Dog (who were watered down versions of Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby-Doo) and mainly fought ecological threats and learned about the dangers of pollution.

When the show was re-tooled in 1977 as The All-New Super Friends Hour, the team was given new sidekicks, the Wonder Twins, and their adventures turned to more straight forward action. As a result the show became even more popular and ran in various forms for the next decade. One of the most popular versions was The Challenge Of The Superfriends that added additional Justice League members such as The Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman, and pitted the team against The Legion Of Doom, a conglomeration of 13 of their most sinister foes.

The AMAZON PRINCESS: WONDER WOMAN!
  • Powers: She is amazing in power.... She has bracers that can deflect bullets. In addition she has a telepathically controled invisible jet and lasso. The lasso also forces anyone caught in it to tell the truth. In addition to all this she is both really smart and really strong.
  • Origin: She was created on Paradice island, making her an amazon... where she was a statue of a little girl. Her mother/artist begged one of those Greek gods, Aphrodite or Athena, (The cartoon calls her both) to bring her to life... and just like pinochio she was alive. She was faster than Mercury and stronger than Hercules. She was always great but they hold a tournament for the best on paradice island to find someone to join the superfriends.... And Diana(Wonder Woman) sneaks into the contest in disguise and wins.
  • Other Info:
Her favorite saying seems to be "Great Hera"

The KING OF THE SEVEN SEAS: AQUAMAN
  • Powers:
Breathe underwater and telepathically talk to sea creatures.
  • Origin:
    Don't have this information yet.
  • Other Info:
Aquaman has been one of the Superfriends that has been in every season since.
  • Arch-enemies: Black Manta (one more useful guy)

The EMERALD GUARDIAN: GREEN LANTERN
  • Powers: He can create anything green with his power ring... Which needs to be recharged with a special lantern. His major weakness is that he can't affect anything yellow.
  • Origin: His name was Hal Jordan. He was a test pilot, and was in an airbase when an alien protector crash landed on Earth. The alien used his ring to find a worthy replacement and Green Lantern was that guy. He then took some oath to protect the galaxy, and become the powerful guy he is.
  • Other Info:Green Lantern is one of the most powerful superfriends.... but he has to have the dumbest weakness.
  • Arch Enemies Sinestro (You know the guy with the yellow ring of power)

The BLACK VULCAN
  • Powers: Something to do with lightning.... He can make cages from lightning, he can travel through time with it... he can fly and his legs become lightning....
  • Origin: No Clue. Still working on this.
  • Other Info: This guy was also one of those heros added to make the Superfreinds multicultural.

The SCARLET SPEEDSTER: The FLASH
  • Powers: He is the fastest man on Earth (Do you think that he can compete in the olympics?)
  • Origin: Not Yet....
  • Other Info: Flash can travel through time.... Really he did I saw it in one episode.  This guy is so fast you can hardly see him.... except this is a still.....

SAMURAI
  • Powers: He has this tornado power.... and he can turn invisible.
  • Origin: I think he was created just for this show...
  • Other Info: Samurai was one of those characters added to make Superfriends multi-cultural, except that samurai looks white.

RIMA THE JUNGLE GIRL

Don't know anything about this one.

HAWKGIRL
  • Powers: She has wings... and guess what... She flies...... I am not sure if she can do anything else.
  • Origin: Don't know yet...
  • Other Info: There is also a Hawkman that shows up once in a while...
Do you wonder why they are HawkMAN and HawkGIRL.... a little sexist I think.

WONDER TWINS
  • Powers: Jayna can turn into any animal, while Zan can turn into any form of water...(Hmmm sort of limiting isn't it). They can also communicate telepathically.
  • Origin: Hmm They come from some other planet.... I am still trying to find the introduction of the Wondertwins episode.
  • Other Info:
They are the ones who haul Gleek around.
Also a thing to note is that the Wondertwins can't use their powers unless they are together and can touch.

APACHE CHIEF
  • Powers: Can grow to be 50 feet tall.
  • Origin: American Indian given the power to grow tall by a medicine man of his tribe in order to save some people in trouble.
  • Other Info: This guy was added to give some multi-cultural ties to the show.... after the first season of all white superfriends.
Also when Apache Chief got his powers, Giganta stole the magic to gain her power.
  • Arch-enemy: Giganta (big surprise huh?)

What force can stand against the combined power of The World's Greatest Superheroes?

  • Origin: She stole the rebigulator from Apache Chief and used it on herself.  Now she's his evil counterpart.
